Greetings from Phnom Penh, Cambodia and the CSW-MERCY Orphanage!
Christmas week was filled with special celebrations and events …
Congratulations General Chhem!! Denise and I had the honor of attending General Chhem’s dinner party, celebrating his completion of the military masters degree along with 53 other high ranking Cambodian military personnel. Denise and I had the great honor to sit with General Chhem and Brig. Gen. Tat Chantha (2nd right), Commandant of the Cambodian Gendarmerie Institute.
Denise and I were invited to the Christmas party of the Shaodu International School, a trilingual (Khmai, English And Chinese) school in Phnom Penh. The President, Dr. Simon Liang invited us to view the school and consider having children at the orphanage attend this school on scholarship!! More to come. Stay tuned.
It is so nice have our daughters, Sonrisa and Makaela spend their University break with us for Christmas.
We are so grateful for our partnership with our dear brother Dennis Wong and the Wong Foundation, in loving memory of Sharon Wong, which has funded many of the projects at the CSW-MERCY Orphanage. (Here is Dennis pictured with the 3Ms, his 3 beautiful daughters:(L-R) Madelyn, Megan and Mabel
Dennis and the Wong Foundation have generously pledged an additional donation for 2019 that will fund a majority of the cost of the All-Purpose field in the back of the orphanage. We are so grateful! Kip and the movement have graciously pledged $2,900 to cover the remaining costs from Missions.
The kids are so excited! This project will transform the Orphanage. Plans are already underway to form a committee within the orphanage to promote health and physical fitness.
Construction will begin at the beginning of January. Expected completion is one month. The two fields (one bigger field and one smaller training field) have been measured and marked by the vendor (see the red lines on the bottom right). We are ready to go!!
The Leadership Committee, headed by Big Brother Heng, continues to pull together to set the tone for the rest of the kids. We gathered together to celebrate progress in 2019 and great dreams and visions in 2020 for the kids at the CSW-MERCY Orphanage!!
Three members of the Leadership Team – Kimlang, Chantu and Danin (back right), along with a local girl having dinner at the restaurant who jumped into the photo (L)) – pulled in Sonrisa and Makaela for a photo opportunity.
Sunday’s Service of the The Phnom Penh International Christian Church was awe-inspiring. We are so grateful for the leadership of Blady and Cielo. They did an amazing job organizing this service!
Reymer Peralta should be commended for stepping up to lead for the first time a Christmas choir. The choir did a stellar job, singing six Christmas songs … in three languages: English, Khmai and Spanish (Feliz Navidad!)
For a church of 50 disciples we had 180 in attendance, including 48 from the CSW-Orphanage and our two daughters, Sonrisa and Makaela.
How fitting with all the kids in attendance to have the baptism of a preteen, Brian!
We had a special visitor … Santa Claus! We have heard that Santa dropped a few pounds due to the significant difference in temperatures between the chill of the North Pole and the Cambodian tropical heat
