At 17, I believed that I was a disciple because I had gone to the alter and prayed Jesus into my heart. During that time, I was struggling with pornography, depression, and attempts at suicide. Right before I met Ruth and Naomi, two awesome sisters who studied the Bible with me, I had begun to seek God for myself. I had been going to a quiet spot on campus every other morning to pray for a better relationship with God, for fruits of the Spirit, and for fellowship. About two to three weeks after I started doing this, I met my future sisters in Christ. God saw my heart and had these two women reach out to me. They taught me that I had to seek God with ALL my heart and hold to His teachings to be a true disciple.
Since I’ve been a Christian, God has blessed me to be learning what it means to truly love God and His people. I am being fortified by His Word daily and gaining understanding. God is cutting out the sin in my life to make me a more effective and passionate leader. He has given me awesome examples of what a disciple is in the Bible and through my brothers and sisters. By these examples and the Holy Spirit, I am learning to share my faith with boldness and make disciples. I am full of God’s joy because thanks to Jesus, my name is written in the book of life.
