“He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness.” Hebrews 5:2-3

Every person on the planet has area of weakness in their life. This is makes you and I subject to weakness. How you handle those areas in your our own personal life will actually determine the outcome of your life. The big mistake that we can make is to convince our self that no one understands what we are going through. The writer of Hebrews conveys a profound and comforting concept which should change the way we approach our weaknesses in Hebrews 4:15-16, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in EVERY WAY, just as we are — yet was without sin.”

As Powerful and hard lined as Jesus was and is, He is also able to relate to each and every temptation we feel in our weakness. This should open the door for every one of us to discuss and overcome all weaknesses in our life. Sadly our society has influenced us to be people who boast in our strengths, using that as camouflage to hide our weaknesses and to never deal with the shame we feel because of our weaknesses. We should all learn from Paul one of the biggest secrets to overcoming and allowing God to give us to strength to overcome – “I will not boast about myself, except about my weaknesses” 2 Corinthians 12:5. Even after praying for years, God will often allow us to be stuck in our weaknesses so that we can understand and appreciate his Grace. But, more importantly so that we will rely on his power to change us permanently. Understanding this Paul made a decision this decision in his life, “Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

I pray that you too will make the decision to overcome your weaknesses. As a disciple of Jesus you have the most impacting force ever known to man at your disposal – the Power of the Holy Spirit. The same power that created this world, helped Jesus to walk on water, and has physically and spiritually saved countless from the dead. Remember, “…our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.” Philippians 3:20-21. Because he knows exactly what you feel and exactly what you are going through, follow his example, “During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.” Hebrews 5:7. When we cry out and submit like Jesus the Lord will make us strong and we will no longer be subject to that weakness!
